New project in Wales
A small hydropower plant Ystradffin is being built in one of the most protected areas of Wales and represents another challenging but well managed project in the United Kingdom.
This project started at the end of 2018 with the commisioning date planned in February 2020. The SHPP Ystradffin is located in the first step of the Llyn Brianne dam. The scheme is taking water from the river Towy and intake is placed inside highly protected SSSI area.
This project is HYDROPOL's first low head hydro power scheme in the heart of Wales in a very sensitive natural area.
The output of 1.8 MW is carried out by two Francis turbines with the capacity of 1 x 2.5 m3/s plus 1 x 1.7 m3/s.
