Skawina
Poland - feasibility study with various options for rehabilitation of a HPP from 1959.
Project review
The Skawina hydropower plant uses water from the cooling circuit of Laczanski-Skawina channel of the thermal power plant Skawina.
HYDROPOL prepared a feasibility study to find best technical solution for replacement of an original turbine from 1959 and to refurbish the power plant by new vertical Kaplan turbine, 2 000 kVA generator, and electrical equipment, without interruption of the thermal power plant operation.
Maximum efficiency of the original turbine did not exceed 82%. The new turbine would have achieved up to 93% efficiency. Unattended and automated operation of the plant would significantly minimize maintenance cost.
